Debbie Gendler Supnik is with us to chat about her new book, I Saw Them Standing There: Adventures of an Original Fan During Beatlemania and Beyond. Debbie received an album by an unknown (in the US) British band named the Beatles and nothing was the same ever again! She said, “Yes!” to the opportunities that presented themselves, ending up in the audience of The Ed Sullivan Show, meeting Brian Epstein, attending the 1965 press conference welcoming the Beatles to America, visiting the Abbey Road Studios, staying with George’s parents in Liverpool, becoming friends with Paul’s brother Mike McCartney, and ending up working for the Ed Sullivan Show as an adult.
Debbie is a four-time Emmy-nominated television executive and producer with CBS and ABC. She served as Women in Film’s first Los Angeles-based Executive Director and was VP of Development for Weller/Grossman Productions. She currently works as a co-producer at SOFA Entertainment, owner of The Ed Sullivan Show.

Join us for a conversation with Chef Rossi about her memoir, The Punk Rock Queen of the Jews! It's a rollercoaster that whisks you through a world bursting with rich characters, uproarious dialogue, vivid snapshots of the Orthodox community and the gritty, pulsating 1980s New York City scene -- raw, on the edge, but gloriously alive. Rossi was raised in a conservative Jewish family, expected to toe the line, marry right, and play by the kosher rulebook. But at 16, she flipped the script, blossoming into a rebellious renegade, craving adventure over conformity. And just as she tasted freedom, her parents swooped in, yanked her away, and dropped her off with a Chasidic rabbi in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.
Rossi has been published in outlets including The Daily News, The New York Post, Time Out New York, and McSweeney’s, to name a few. She has been the food writer of the “Eat Me” column for Bust magazine since 1998, hosts her own hit radio show on WOMR and WFMR in Cape Cod called Bite This, now in its nineteenth season, has been featured on The Food Network and NPR and has been a popular blogger for The Huffington Post. Her first memoir, “The Raging Skillet: The True Life Story of Chef Rossi” was published by The Feminist Press to rave reviews. In addition to memoir, Rossi has written two full-length plays, a number of one-act comedies, a one-woman stage adaptation of Queen of the Jews, and launched the Raging and Eating podcast.

More than twenty-five years ago, Colleen Worthington rolled up her sleeves and built a baking empire out of her own kitchen, which provided a place for her children and now grandchildren to learn hard work, dedication, and creativity. Together with her husband, Gary, the Worthington pursued their interest in scratch-made artisan breads by training at both the American Institute of Baking and San Francisco Baking Institute. They worked closely with Lehi Mills to develop an exclusive flour mixture and located an ideal, traditional Italian hearth-stone oven. Their first bakery opened in Orem, Utah, in 1997, where they served European hearth breads. Within a few months, they expanded to offer a variety of sandwiches, soups, and salads. In their first quarter-century, they have expanded to forty-nine stores in six western states.
In Kneaders Bakery & Cafe: A Celebration of Our Recipes and Memories, Colleen celebrates the many people who’ve shared in the success of the business, offering moving and inspiring memories along with favorite recipes. In addition to over a dozen recipes for bread, including Rosemary Focaccia Bread, Sesame Semolina, Chocolate Hearth, and Utah Mountain Style Cornbread, there are recipes for mouthwatering cakes, cookies, pies, and puddings, sandwiches, soups, salads, and breakfast.

Chef Michael Kalanty chats with us about the interesting road that led him to a career in baking. From a mathematics major to graduate school in architecture, to writing his thesis on the flying buttress of France’s cathedrals where he couldn’t help but notice the boulangeries next to every cathedral. He was so drawn to them that he apprenticed with a baker he met while there. This episode is worth listening to just for the description of focaccia with olive oil and “little pools of harvest grape jelly.”
An award-winning, professional baker with more than 20 years' experience, Michael Kalanty is a craft bread baker, culinary instructor, and cookbook author. His certifications include Executive Pastry Chef, Culinary Educator, and Master Taster. Kalanty was also named Chef Instructor of the Year by Le Cordon Bleu and has several full-length baking courses online, produced in partnership with Craftsy.com. His first book, How to Bake Bread, won "Best Bread Book in the World" at the Paris Cookbook Fair in 2011.
Michael is also a culinary R&D professional offering laboratory expertise in fermentation, sensory, and food analysis who works exclusively with companies who support a more sustainable and safe food system. Applied sciences formed the core of his undergrad training at Bucknell where he earned a degree in mathematics, specializing in statistics. Michael draws on his science background to develop and teach food science courses for professional culinary schools.
Michael has generously arranged for a 30% discount for his “Discovering Focaccia” video class in partnership with Central Milling’s Artisan Baking Center in Petaluma, CA! See link below.

Denise talks with Kitty Morse about her most recent cookbook, Bitter Sweet: A Wartime journal and Heirloom Recipes from Occupied France.
Award-winning author Kitty Morse was born in Casablanca, Morocco, of a French mother and British father. She emigrated to the United States at the age of seventeen. While studying for her Master’s Degree at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Kitty catered Moroccan diffas, or banquets, and went on to teach the intricacies of Moroccan cuisine in cooking schools and department stores nationwide. In June 2002, she conducted a Culinary Concert on Moroccan culture and cuisine hosted by Julia Child, as a benefit for the Harry Bell Foundation of the International Association of Culinary Professionals. Kitty’s books have been translated into French, German, Polish, and Czech. In 1984 (and for the next 25 years) she initiated annual gastronomic tours to Morocco that included culinary demonstrations in her family home, a Moorish riad south of Casablanca. Her monthly e-newsletter, The Kasbah Chronicles, in French and in English, is now in its twelfth year of circulation. Kitty has authored one memoir and 10 cookbooks.

Linda Skeens, author of Recipes and Tips from America’s Favorite County Fair Champion, is with us this week to talk about the joy she finds in cooking, crafts, canning, and family.
Last summer at the Virginia Kentucky State Fair, one woman won first, second and third place for best cookies. She also swept all three awards for candy and for savory bread. And won the blue ribbon for cake, pie, brownie, sweet bread, and best overall baked goods (that was strawberry fudge.) But it didn't end there. She won for canned tomatoes, canned corn, pickled peppers, sauerkraut, relish, spaghetti sauce and both jelly and jam. And after the fair posted these utterly dominating results on social media in June, you guessed it— she went viral. Linda Skeens, a 74-year-old grandmother from Appalachia, won 30 ribbons in all. Now, after decades of cooking for her family and competing in county fair cookoffs, she’s not only internet famous, but has been celebrated across the country for her mouthwatering, downhome dishes. Her award-winning recipes and delightful family stories will be published for the first time ever in a new book, BLUE RIBBON KITCHEN: Recipes and Tips from America’s Favorite County Fair Champion.
When Linda Skeens gained sudden and widespread fame for winning dozens of ribbons at the Virginia-Kentucky District Fair in the summer of 2022, people across the country began asking, “Who is Linda Skeens?” Her first-ever published collection of recipes and family stories, Blue-Ribbon Cooking: Recipes and Tips from America’s Favorite County Fair Champion, answers the question that’s been on everyone’s mind. Linda is an Appalachian grandmother who’s been cooking for her loved ones and entering county fairs for decades, frequently taking home the highest honors. In her new book, she shares more than 30 of her prize-winning recipes in additional to more than 70 other family-favorite dishes. From canning and fudges to stews and casseroles, this cookbook features a lifetime of recipes collected and perfected by Linda Skeens.
