Coffee is the richest source of dietary antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents in the American diet. But behind every cup of coffee is a global story that spans centuries of cultural transformation, health science, and a tangled web of trade ethics. Corinna Bellizzi delves into this topic with Chris Kilhan, medicine hunter and author of The Way of Coffee. Together, they unpack the role of coffee in social transformation, particularly with critical tensions in the coffee trade and the nonstop price increase due to the “coffee shop culture.” Chris also presents potential solutions to solve the biggest problems of the global botanical trade to radically improve consumer prices and provide better opportunities to small farmers, the heroes behind our most delicious cups of coffee.
About Guest:

Storytelling can inspire us to take action on the ever-worsening climate crisis. Ali Horriyat and Cathryn Bancroft join forces in writing a new cli-fi book, The Hollow Age, which dares to ask the question: if our planet burns, do we run to another planet or risk everything to save it? Together with Corinna Bellizzi, they discuss how they use fiction to shed light on the alarming realities of the earth right now. Ali and Cathryn also break down the best ways to address the immigration problem in the United States and what it truly takes to begin a social revolution that leads to a real difference.

When Gabe Brown saw firsthand how regenerative agriculture significantly transformed their family farm, he committed himself to spreading the word about the importance of taking care of the soil. In this conversation with Corinna Bellizzi, he breaks down his work as one of the pioneers of the current soil health movement that eliminates the use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, and fungicides. Gabe explores the six principles of soil health, the four ecosystem processes, and the importance of local food sourcing. He also emphasizes the need to educate companies, the youth, and the public about the dangers of modernized farming techniques and why regenerative farming is the key to unlocking a more sustainable tomorrow.BUILD A GREENER FUTURE with CARE MORE BE BETTER🌴 Subscribe to our newsletter, and we’ll plant a tree in your honor!🌲 Subscribe and rate us wherever you listen, and we’ll plant another tree🌱 Together, we’ve planted 24,251 trees in 2025 through our partnership with ForestPlanet. The environment is one huge organism, and cooperation allows it to thrive and survive. Corinna Bellizzi sits down with Kristin Ohlson, who talks all about cooperation, resilience, and generosity in both human and ecological systems in her book, “Sweet in Tooth and Claw.” Kristin explores various examples of natural cooperation, from plants and microbes in the soil to aquatic animals and coral reefs. She also talks about the importance of human cooperation in rehabilitating soil health and elevating regenerative farming practices. This conversation is truly an eye-opener on how individualism is slowly killing nature and society – and why working together is the only way to unlock lasting growth.About Guest:Kristin Ohlson is a writer from Portland, Oregon. Her book Sweet in Tooth and Claw: Stories of Generosity and Cooperation in the Natural World – which the Wall Street Journal calls “excellent and illuminating” – probes the mutually beneficial relationships among living things that shape and sustain the natural world and explores ways humans can cooperate with the rest of nature. Her last book was The Soil Will Save Us: How Scientists, Farmers and Foodies are Healing the Soil to Save the Planet, which the Los Angeles Times calls “a hopeful book and a necessary one.” She appeared in the award-winning documentary film, Kiss the Ground, to speak about the connection between soil health and climate health.Guest LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kristinohlson/Guest Website: https://www.kristinohlson.comGuest Social: https://www.instagram.com/kristin.ohlson/https://www.facebook.com/kristin.ohlson.7/Additional Resources Mentioned:Sweet in Tooth and Claw: Stories of Generosity and Cooperation in the Natural WorldShow Notes: Raw audio00:03:24 - Writing ‘Sweet In Tooth & Claw’00:08:06 - Flipping Metaphors About The Environment00:12:53 - Why Nature Is Innately Creative00:16:20 - Negative Impact Of Dams And Why They Must Be Removed00:18:14 - Examples Of Cooperation And Mutualism In Nature00:20:25 - Rebuilding Soil Health Through Regenerative Agriculture00:31:38 - How Farmers Changed Grazing Practices In Nevada00:38:47 - Exploring Indigenous Traditions On Reciprocity00:42:41 - Unlocking Culture Change Through Cooperation00:47:23 - Blending Nature With Awe And Wonder00:52:17 - How Storytelling Connects Science To The Heart00:57:16 - Get In Touch With Kristin And Join Corinna’s Reforestation Efforts00:59:33 - Seeing Life As One Huge Cooperative Act01:02:17 - Episode Wrap-Up And Closing WordsBUILD A GREENER FUTURE with CARE MORE BE BETTER🌴 Subscribe to our newsletter, and we’ll plant a tree in your honor!🌲 Subscribe and rate us wherever you listen, and we’ll plant another tree🌱 Together, we’ve planted 24,251 trees in 2025 through our partnership with ForestPlanet. Mangroves are vital for coastal resilience, marine life breeding, and carbon sequestration. Despite the undeniable worth of such trees, they are rapidly dwindling in many areas around the world. Hank Dearden is actively spearheading reforestation projects through ForestPlanet to solve this alarming problem – at an average cost of just 15 cents per tree. Joining Corinna Bellizzi, he explains how they forge global partnerships and initiate fundraising campaigns to lead mangrove restorations worldwide, particularly in coastal communities and fishing villages. Hank also dissects the complicated yet worthwhile process of growing mangroves, as well as the impact of the evolving carbon markets on such environmental efforts.About Guest:Hank Dearden III is Founder and Executive Director of ForestPlanet, Inc. a 501(c)3 organization based in Washington, DC. Launched in 2018, ForestPlanet supports large scale, low cost-per-tree reforestation projects around the world. Mollie Engelhart’s journey from vegan chef and Los Angeles restaurateur to regenerative farmer in California and Texas is anything but ordinary. In her new book, Debunked by Nature, Mollie shares how motherhood, land stewardship, and firsthand farming experience dismantled long-held beliefs about veganism, soil health, and politics.
In this candid conversation, we explore her personal and political transformation, the realities of running Sovereignty Ranch, and how she navigates both the ecological and ideological divides in today’s regenerative agriculture movement. From raw milk revelations to the necessity of animals in building healthy soil, Mollie challenges assumptions on all sides of the aisle.
We also discuss the complexity of immigration reform, the pitfalls of partisanship in environmental issues, and her vision for a more sovereign, resilient future. Whether you agree with her or not, this dialogue will make you think about food, farming, and freedom in new ways.

In this episode, you’ll learn:
Why Mollie left veganism after becoming a farmer
How regenerative farming confronts both environmental and political narratives
The importance of coalition-building across ideological divides
Realities of animal care and death on a regenerative farm
Mollie’s approach to immigration reform and labor in agriculture
Her vision for Sovereignty Ranch as a model of self-reliance
About Guest: Mollie Engelhart is the executive chef and founder of Sage Regenerative Kitchen in Los Angeles alongside her husband Elias as well as a leader in the Regenerative Agriculture movement with 200 acres at Sovereignty Ranch in the Texas Hill Country. Her mission is to produce healthy food from healthy soil for her communities. Mollie is the mother of five, a film producer, poet, and thought leader examining the connections of humanity, family, soil, food, and culture, constantly questioning “Where do we go from here?” She is passionate about health freedom, natural birth, breastfeeding, regenerative agriculture, community, and humanity’s place in partnership with nature and God. As a self-proclaimed lifelong liberal, Mollie became confronted with the bureaucracy that destroyed her once thriving restaurants in Los Angeles during the pandemic. Mollie came to the conclusion that the democratic party did not center around family, God or freedom and now sees herself as a “radical centrist”. Since her revelations, Mollie has done many speaking events, giving testimony to how she became pro-life, the challenges of doing business in California, regenerative agriculture and the connection between soil and health. She regularly gets standing ovations and brings people to tears with her inspiring conversations. Mollie has been featured on podcasts, news outlets, public speaking engagements and more including; Texas State University, Epoch Times, Turning Point USA, Fox News, Bon Appetit, ABC News, NPR, Luke Storey, Max Lavine, Confluence and the Exit & Build Summit.
