In the Latinx community, family is everything. We need to be close to them and spend every single event / holiday with them or else... (okay maybe I'm exaggerating). But what happens if you choose to cease contact because they no longer align with your value, are toxic, or abusive? What happens then? Today we are joined by therapist Violetta Fernandez who is going to break down family estrangement navigating through it and building your own family along the way. Violetta Fernandez is a Mexican American, Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She works in community mental health and in a group private practice. Violetta's passion is to cultivate seeds of trauma from family estrangement into self-love and acceptance. Her work involves providing a safe space for estranged individuals to reclaim their voice and narratives through the healing process.
